As small as Val-David is, as much it has to offer in terms of activities, nature and food. I already wrote about Val-David and two nice eating spots (which you can read here) but there’s still another little place worth mentioning.
Général Café is a small restaurant which has an ever smaller shop inside, consisting of not more than two shelfs with things like jewellery and little tin cars. The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch, seven days a week. With a bit of luck you can enjoy their nice covered terrace, surrounded by trees and passing hikers and mountain bikers.
The menu is quite big for a small place, and offers basic choices like sandwiches, bagels, wraps, salads, soups as well as some original options like naan pizza, eight different kinds of grilled cheese sandwiches and healthy filled rice bowls with an oriental touch. Breakfast is covered as well, with eggs prepared in any style, fruit bowls, old fashioned french toast and other sweet treats.
The soft-boiled eggs with toasted bread-sticks (7CAD/5€) – all artisan bread from a local bakery- was a a hearty filling breakfast to my taste (and everything is better when there’s dipping involved, right?). The French toast (10 CAD/7€) is only for the brave, being quite the heavy meal (but super good) in the morning with its cream, raisins, sugar, almonds and apple sauce.
